Social Enterprises are part of the ‘Third Sector’ along with charities and voluntary groups, but have a strong business focus to enable a greater financial independence. They have a social aim and trade in goods and services that help them meet their social aim. Typically, at least half of the overall income of a Social Enterprise should be made through trading, rather than grants or donations and any profit re-invested back into the business rather than paid to shareholders.
Growing Places Social Enterprise
Growing Places is an emerging Social Enterprise offering on-the-job training and employment for people disadvantaged in the labour market. We create local employment and contribute to the health and wellbeing of the local community through ethical business and trading.
We have the ability to grow all year round in our 5 poly tunnels and outside growing area. Growing Places is also a Micro Food Hub sourcing local seasonal produce. Our box delivery scheme is highly regarded and we have a produce stall at various venues in Ipswich every week.
All produce surplus to requirements is donated to local organisations supporting people who are disadvantaged, promoting our no waste and humanitarian policies.
Up to 40 Enterprise Trainees attend Growing Places each week and work in all areas. Where possible we employ people who started off as Enterprise Trainees and also pay others for very part-time work. Where appropriate our ultimate aim is also to support disadvantaged people into mainstream employment.
NOCN Accredited training is provided to our trainees in:
- Retail
- Amenity Horticulture
- Health and Safety
When you buy from Growing Places you are supporting a Social Business and a Social Business supports everyone…
